iPad in the ClassroomAll-day Course, 09:00 AM – 04:00 PM (6 PDU’s) $299 Teachers are the center of the classroom, and technology has the ability to amplify good teaching strategy. This is an all-day course designed to give teachers an introduction to using a tablet (the iPad) for their classroom preparation and instruction. Content from this course will provide primary scaffolding for the educator to incorporate mobile technology into their instructional pedagogy.

Salem-Keizer Teachers: This course is approved for professional development and is eligible for Tuition Reimbursement by SKSD.

iBooks Author WorkshopHalf-day Workshop, 01:00 PM – 04:00 PM (3 PDU’s) $179 iBooks Author is a powerful tool for creating ebooks specifically for the rich media experience of iBooks, on the iOS platform. We encourage participants to bring their laptops, with iBooks Author pre-installed. Teachers can start working with the software immediately this way. *However, you DO NOT need to bring a computer to class with you to participate in the workshop. There will be plenty of opportunities to work together on a shared class book project, which will give you some exposure to the software, along with many demonstrations by the instructor. We will:

iPad Presentations WorkshopHalf-day Workshop, 09:00 AM – 12:00 PM (3 PDU’s) $179 The iPad has become an extremely powerful tool for presentations. Whether in the classroom or the boardroom, there is plenty of horsepower available to you with an iPad. And with the addition of Apple TV, whole new worlds have been opened with regards to what a teacher can accomplish during their presentations and instruction. The key to a teachers success with this tool is learning what the iPad is actually capable of doing. During the workshop, we will:

About the Instructor
Jeff Kurtz, Instructional Design Program Manager at Dreem Digital, will teach this course. Jeff has a passion for the use of mobile technology in the classroom as a tool for engaging students in an authentic learning environment. He believes the teacher is the key contributor to making mobile technology the most effective. He received his Master’s Degree at Willamette University’s Graduate School of Education in Teaching, authorized in Early Childhood, Elementary, and ESOL. Mr. Kurtz has worked with children for over 18 years and has been teaching in the classroom for 2 years. As an ELD teacher at Boones Ferry Primary School, in Wilsonville, Oregon, he has been innovative in using iPads and sound pedagogy with his K-5 students. Jeff will provide a hands-on experience focused on helping teachers engage students and enhance the effect of instruction. Jeff is the father of three boys with a background in youth programming, music, art, and drama.
